For years now, ski resort operators have been lamented the ever-decreasing snowfall due to climate change. If the snow eventually stops coming altogether, downhill skiers may have to turn to slightly less fluffy stuff to fulfill their need for speed.

Recently, Swedish professional skiers Jesper Tjäder and Emma Dahlström travelled to Peru with a GoPro video crew to play on the slopes of the highest sand dune in the world.

At 2,078 meters in height, Cerro Blanco requires hours of hiking in the sun to reach the top. The massive dune provides runs over a kilometer in length for a truly unique experience in sand skiing.

As carefree as skiing down the mountainous dunes appears in GoPro’s video, Tjäder and Dahlström needed time to get acclimated to the strange medium. Additionally, considerable prep work went on behind the scenes to secure a rail and several pop ups on the slope.
The hard work paid off with some surreal shots in the sand…
