Justin Rose secures permanent spot in golfing lore with Olympic gold, first ever hole-in-one

Great Britain’s Justin Rose became the first golfer in 112 years to claim Olympic gold in golf on Sunday, finishing two strokes ahead of Sweden’s Henrik Stenson. The United States’ Matt Kuchar claimed the bronze, three strokes back of Rose.

With the win, Rose became the only golfer in history to have claimed both a major championship and an Olympic gold medal.

During the opening round of play on Thursday, Rose forever secured his place in sports trivia by becoming the first ever player in the Olympic Games to ace a hole on way to shooting a 67.

The hole-in-one came courtesy Rose’s 7-iron on the par-3 189-yard fourth hole at the Olympic Golf Course.

On Friday, Rose shot a 69 to stay tied with France’s Gregory Bourdy in fourth place, before surging into the lead on Saturday with a 65 and then holding on during the final round against a determined Stenson.
