After being feted in Los Angeles, the United States Women’s National Team flew to the Big Apple where they enjoyed a ticker-tape parade down the Canyon of Heroes. New York City mayor Bill de Blasio presented each of the USWNT players with a key to the city after the festivities.

The last time women alone were thrown a ticker tape parade was when a lone woman was the subject of adoration 55 years ago — in 1960, figure-skating champion Carol Heiss Jenkins of Queens got her own parade. In 1984, both the men’s and women’s gymnastic teams were honored after winning gold at the Olympic Games.
