This year’s international competitive climbing season is underway with Japanese climbers claiming three of the six podium spots available in the men’s and women’s events at the IFSC Climbing World Cup Meiringen 2017 Bouldering Final. Bouldering is one of three disciplines — the other two being sport and speed climbing — constituting the climbing event that will debut at the 2020 Olympic Games.

Japan’s Kokoro Fujii, who placed third in the 2016 IFSC World Cup Championship, won the men’s bouldering competition in Meiringen. Countrymen Keita Watabe and Rei Sugimoto, finished in third and fourth respectively.
