Following the USWNT from Winnipeg to Montreal for Women’s World Cup semifinal

It’s been quite a June for the United States Women’s National Team in the Women’s World Cup. After giving up a lone first-half goal to Australia in their opening match, the United States has shut out Sweden, Nigeria, Colombia and China. Next up, a formidable German side awaits in Montreal.

On June 8, the USWNT kicked off Group D play in Winnipeg, Manitoba with a win over Australia. A Christine Press goal, sandwiched by two Megan Rapinoe scores, were more than enough offense to make up for the Aussie’s lone goal in the 27th minute.

On June 12, the United States battled to a draw with a feisty Sweden team.

On June 16, the United States won Group D and advanced to the knockout round by edging Nigeria on Abby Wambach’s goal.

On June 22, the United States defeated Colombia, with goals from Alex Morgan and Carli Lloyd.

On June 26, the USWNT recorded their fourth shutout of the World Cup in defeating China. In a game in which she earned her 200th cap, Carli Lloyd’s goal was the difference maker for the United States.

Next up for the women is a tough June 30 match with Germany, who entered the Cup with 3-to-1 odds to win it all. The Germans have tallied twenty goals thus far in the Cup, setting up a major defense vs offense clash in Tuesday’s Semifinal match.
