It’s been a busy week in basketball-to-the-face news. First up, it was a fan at the Sacramento Kings-Charlotte Hornets game getting beaned by a tipped pass that brushed past the fingers of Hornets small forward Gerald Henderson.
A couple more incidents like this, and the NBA is going to have to take a serious look at banning distracted cellphone use in the first five rows adjacent to the court.

A day later, during the Creighton-Georgetown game, the Bluejays’ Geoffrey Groselle took a basketball off the side of his noggin when teammate Devin Brooks threw a hot and high pass from 3-feet away.
No rule change is necessary to avoid a recurrence of this one — just some common sense to make sure your teammate is looking before you pass and give them more than a micro-second to react.

San Antonio Spurs shooting guard Manu Ginobili was getting set at the free throw line in Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, when the ref bounced the ball into the Argentinian’s face.
Ginobili didn’t hesitate in taking corrective action — he slapped the ref with a technical foul (alas, with no codified consequences).

Why this sudden spate of targeting cabezas with basketballs? One needn’t look further than Will Ferrell setting a bad example at a New Orleans Pelicans game earlier in the year.
While ostensibly filming a scene for his upcoming film Daddy’s Home, Ferrell looked almost ebullient at clocking the cheerleader from close range.
