Brian Scalabrine spent the majority of his NBA career coming off the bench when the game’s outcome was no longer in doubt, but that hasn’t kept the former Nets/Celtics/Bulls 12th man from interjecting his name in the conversation of the greatest basketball player ever.
After part three of the popular “Kobe Bryant vs. Michael Jordan — Identical Plays” series was posted on YouTube earlier this week, Scalabrine responded with a video of his own.

[fusion_title size=”4″]COMING HOME… SCALABRINE STYLE[/fusion_title]
Scalabrine, who this season will be returning to Boston as an analyst for local Celtics broadcasts, took the opportunity to pen his own tongue-in-cheek “Coming Home” missive a la LeBron James.
I'm Coming Home … http://t.co/dJZYxdMpbD pic.twitter.com/fmcWdDESrw
— Brian Scalabrine (@Scalabrine) August 4, 2014
In one excerpt he waxes eloquent on his erstwhile role as a bench-warmer:
From the moment I signed with the Celtics, I knew this was my new home. Most of the people are just like me. They work hard, they play hard, and the passion they have for their sports team is unlike anywhere in the world. I had passion for my team just like the fans. I guess I was kind of like the fans except I had a courtside seat for free and if we were up by 20 with less than two minutes to play I would get to go into the game.
Here, he wisely tempers expectations on his homecoming:
I’m not promising a championship. I know how hard that is to deliver. We’re not ready right now. No way. Of course, I want to win next year, but I’m realistic. I’m only a broadcaster – what could I really do? It will be a long process, much longer than in 2008. My patience will get tested. I know that. I’m going into a situation with a young team and a young coach. I will be the young Comcast SportsNet announcer in the booth next to the legendary Mike Gorman and learn from the greatest color analyst in the game Mr. Tommy Heinsohn. I know that I have a lot to learn but I see myself as a Champion, and I think I can help break down some great Marcus Smart dunks this season.

Lest you start to view Scalabrine — with his career averages of 3.1 points, 2 boards per game — as a total joke, think again. “The White Mamba” has been more than happy to take on naysayers in ‘Scallenge’ games, like the following video in which he wins a one-on-three game 11-1. Michael Jordan, are you watching?
