On way to a 10th straight home victory, the Angels put their own real-life spin on the “Angels in the Outfield” film(s). Relief-pitcher Mike Morin stars in the 8th inning play, with catcher Hank Conger and first baseman C.J. Cron cast in supporting roles.

The first “Angels in the Outfield” movie came a full decade before the California Angels were even a franchise. It revolved around a hapless Pittsburgh Pirates team that is turned around with some heavenly assistance.

The second take on the theme was a Walt Disney production from 1994. The film stars Danny Glover as the Angels manager, Tony Danza as a pitcher, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a prayerful foster child.

See if you can recognize the outfielder and future Oscar-winner at the 1:30 mark in the trailer.

Extra credit if you can recognize the film’s other future Oscar-winner at the 0:48 mark in the following clip. (Both award winners are identified after the video, so try not to peak).

Matthew McConaughey plays outfielder Ben Williams and won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in 2013’s “Dallas Buyers Club” (alright, alright, alright). Adrien Brody plays utility infielder Danny Hemmerling and won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in 2002’s “The Pianist”.
